On Wednesday, President Obama nominated Debevoise & Plimpton attorney Lorna Schofield to the Southern District Bench. Before joining Debevoise, Schofield spent four years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York. Reuters reports that if approved, Schofield will become the first Filipina-American on the federal bench. Yesterday, Senator Schumer announced that he is recommending Justice Nelson Román to President Obama for the Southern District. Justice Román began his career as a police officer in the Bronx, and has been a Justice at the First Appellate Division since 2009. Justice Román’s wife is NYC Deputy Mayor for Legal Affairs Carol Robles-Román.
